How each game round works

Each round of Asset City is structured into three distinct phases, reflecting the real‑world cycle of asset decision‑making, uncertainty and value creation.

Phase 1: Maintenance decisions & events

  • Teams select and fund maintenance or renewal actions for one of their assets.
  • Actions are implemented and their immediate impact assessed.
  • Then the dice is rolled again, and teams respond to the resulting events or conditions.

Phase 2: Further maintenance decisions & events

  • A second set of maintenance or renewal decisions is made for one of the team’s assets.
  • Costs are incurred and actions carried out.
  • A further dice roll introduces additional events, testing decision‑making under changing conditions.

Phase 3: Value realisation & asset ageing

  • Assets generate value based on their condition, performance and previous decisions.
  • Assets age, reinforcing the long‑term consequences of maintenance, investment and risk choices.

Explore when to invest, maintain, renew or replace assets, and understand the long‑term implications of those choices.

See how decisions made today affect future cost, performance, service and risk, reinforcing lifecycle‑based asset management.

Assess how different risk attitudes influence asset strategies, resilience and value, and learn to make informed trade‑offs.

Deal with unforeseen events and disruptions, reflecting the realities of operational asset management.

Share knowledge, challenge assumptions and learn from others through structured teamwork and discussion.

Engage in a professionally facilitated game environment that encourages participation, motivation and enjoyment – making learning memorable and impactful.
